Common Questions

Everything you need to know about switching processors, what Crane charges, and how the processing side fits in.

Getting Started

Switching processors

Is there a contract?

No. Month-to-month only. Cancel anytime with no cancellation fees, no early termination penalties.

Do I need to provide my current statement?

No statement required to get your savings estimate — just answer 3 questions and you'll see a number in 60 seconds. Want your real numbers? We'll review your statement for free. No signup, no commitment.

How long does it take to switch?

Most merchants are live within 3–5 business days of approval. We handle the paperwork, the terminal setup, and the configuration. You don't fill out any forms or make any calls — we do it.

Will I lose any sales during the switchover?

No. We time the cutover so your new terminal is live before your old setup goes inactive. There's no gap in your ability to take cards. Most merchants don't even notice the transition.

What processors are you replacing?

Most of our merchants come from Square, Clover, Stripe, or their bank's default processor. A few come from larger ISOs where the rates crept up over time.

Can I keep my existing POS system?

Depends on the system. Many POS platforms are processor-agnostic and work fine with our terminals. Others are tied to a specific processor (Square's software only works with Square's hardware, for example). We'll tell you upfront whether your current setup is compatible before anything changes.

Pricing & Fees

What you actually pay

What is your processing rate?

Starting at 2.19% + $0.09 per card-present transaction, with no monthly platform fee. No statement fees, no batch fees, no setup fee, and no cancellation fee. Card-brand and PCI program fees are passed through and shown on your statement. Equipment is separate — rental starts at $15/month, or you can buy outright. A small number of charges are set by the card networks or the processor and passed straight through. PCI validation is the merchant's responsibility, and a PCI non-compliance fee may apply while an account is not validated — we provide onboarding and renewal guidance at no monthly charge so it doesn't apply.

Are there hidden fees?

No. Crane uses transparent fixed pricing — you know your rate, platform fee, and equipment cost before you sign anything.

What is interchange and why does it matter?

Interchange is the base cost of every card transaction — set by Visa, Mastercard, and the card-issuing banks. It varies by card type (debit vs. rewards vs. corporate) and how the transaction is processed. Most flat-rate processors charge a high bundled percentage regardless of card type — which means you overpay on every transaction.

Why do some merchants pay a lower rate than 2.19%?

High-volume merchants can qualify for a lower effective rate based on monthly card volume and card mix. If most of your transactions are debit or basic credit cards, your actual cost is lower than 2.19%. We'll show you what your effective rate would be when we run your estimate.

Is there a monthly platform fee?

No. Crane's platform fee is $0/month. Gateway access, reporting tools, PCI compliance guidance, and ongoing account support are all included at no monthly charge. Equipment is quoted separately, as a monthly rental or an outright purchase.

Do you charge for chargebacks?

A standard chargeback fee is charged when a dispute is filed — this is standard across all processors. We don't add our own markup on top.

Day-to-Day Operations

How it actually works

How fast do I get my money?

Next-day funding on all approved accounts. Funds from today's transactions are in your bank account tomorrow. Batches need to settle by midnight for next-day deposit — we configure your terminal to auto-settle so you never have to think about it.

What payment types do you accept?

All of them. Tap, chip, swipe, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and contactless cards. If a customer has a Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or Amex, it works. We also support debit PIN transactions.

What terminals and hardware do you offer?

We work with Ingenico terminals — the Desk series for countertop retail, salon, and restaurant setups, and the Move series for portable and table-side checkout. You can rent (from $15/month) or buy outright. We'll recommend the right terminal for your business type and configure it correctly before you go live.

What happens if my equipment breaks?

If you're renting, we replace it — that's part of the rental. If you bought outright, we'll help you get it resolved quickly through our processor's support line. We don't leave you without a working terminal.

What about PCI compliance?

PCI validation is the merchant's responsibility. Crane provides onboarding and renewal guidance at no monthly charge. A PCI non-compliance fee may apply while an account is not validated.

What does your customer support look like?

You have a direct line to a real person — us. Not a national call center, not a ticket queue. For terminal issues outside business hours, our processor's 24/7 support line is also available. Most questions get answered the same day.

About Crane

Who's behind this

What does "Bank-grade infrastructure" mean?

Crane Processing works with bank-backed processing infrastructure, giving you direct access to the same infrastructure.

What is Crane Processing, and how are you different from a bank?

Crane Processing is an independent sales organization (ISO) — we act as the local agent for the processors we work with. Banks typically add their own markup on top of processor rates and don't specialize in payments.

What areas do you serve?

We primarily serve independent businesses across Metro Atlanta and Georgia. If you are outside that area, call us first and we will tell you plainly whether we can support the account.

Are you a local business?

Yes. Not a national call center, not a franchise. When you call, you reach the same person who set up your account.

Is the processing network reliable?

Yes. We run on bank-backed processing infrastructure, and Crane is an authorized agent.
