Getting paid away from a counter changes the setup.

Where you work decides whether WiFi is enough or you need cellular
Your phone can be the terminal — no extra hardware to carry
Next-day funding on approved accounts, so a day’s work isn’t a week’s wait
Software and equipment should be quoted separately from your rate

Three ways to take a card

Start with the lightest setup that covers you. Step up only if you need a printer, an all-day battery, or a device that isn’t someone’s personal phone.

What you’d save depends on your volume, card mix, and current processor. An estimate gives you a number to work from.

Not sure which fits? Tell us where you collect payment and we’ll recommend one.

Pick the connection before you pick the hardware.

WiFi only. Fine when you work where the WiFi is yours to trust, like your shop or a regular site.
WiFi + 4G LTE. A $20/mo data line, for jobs where the WiFi is someone else’s problem.
Your phone’s own data. The app runs on the signal you already pay for. No terminal to carry.
Full-day battery. Nothing in a mobile setup should depend on finding an outlet.

Mobile processing questions

Can I take cards on my phone?

Yes. The Elavon Mobile app turns the phone you already carry into your terminal. Tap to Pay on a recent iPhone takes a contactless card or wallet with no reader, and other phones pair the Link/2500 reader over Bluetooth.

What if there’s no WiFi at the job?

You can still take the payment. The Move 5000 switches to 4G LTE on a cellular data line, and the Elavon Mobile app runs on your phone’s own cellular data.

Can an employee take payments without using their own phone?

Yes. The Move 5000 is a mobile terminal with a full-day battery, so payment doesn’t depend on anyone’s personal phone. Rental and cellular line prices are listed above.

Do I need an EIN to get a merchant account?

Not if you’re a sole proprietor. You can use your SSN instead, along with a business bank account for your sales to settle into and photo ID. Approval is the bank’s decision, not ours.
